National Novel Writing Month : 30 days & nights of literary abandon

National Novel Writing Month, a.k.a. NaNoWriMo, starts tomorrow. The aim of the project is to get you to write a 50,000 word novel between Nov. 1st and 30th. This cool initiative started in 1991 with just 21 participants. Last year saw over 250,000 writers sign up and 36,800 of them actually completed a manuscript (they rest just had a lot of fun). Visit the NaMoWriNo website to get registered and find out the full details.

There is also a local kick-off event 6:00 pm tomorrow evening at the Alderney Gate Library in Dartmouth.

"Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved."

At NaNoWriMo you can:
  • Write a novel in a month!
  • Track your progress.
  • Get pep talks and support.
  • Meet fellow writers online and in person.
