Christian Fiction: 3 series with an edge
As Christian Fiction becomes increasingly popular among readers, the new book offerings are becoming much broader in their scope and style. I have noticed that many of the new titles are quite edgy: full of darkness; suspense; and tough characters. Consider the following series:
The Guardians of Justice series (M)
by Irene Hannon
Featuring: Fatal Judgement and Deadly Pursuit
"U.S.
Marshal Jake Taylor has seen plenty of action during his years in law
enforcement. But he'd rather go back to Iraq than face his next
assignment: protection detail for federal judge Liz Michaels. His
feelings toward Liz haven't warmed in the five years since she lost
her husband--and Jake's best friend--to possible suicide. How can
Jake be expected to care for the coldhearted workaholic who drove his
friend to despair? As the danger mounts and Jake gets to know Liz
better, his feelings slowly start to change. When it becomes clear
that an unknown enemy may want her dead, the stakes are raised.
Because now both her life--and his heart--are in mortal danger." publisher's summary for Fatal Judgement
The Book of Mortals series (M)
by Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee
Featuring: Forbidden and Mortal
"Many years
have passed since civilization's brush with apocalypse. The world's
greatest threats have all been silenced. There is no anger, no
hatred, no war. There is only perfect peace... and fear. But a
terrible secret has been closely guarded for centuries: Every single
soul walking the earth, though in appearance totally normal, is
actually dead, long ago genetically stripped of true humanity.
Fleeing pursuit, with only moments to live, a young man named Rom
stumbles into possession of a vial of blood and a piece of cryptic
writing. When consumed, the blood will bring him back to life. When
decoded, the message will lead him on a perilous journey that will
require him to abandon everything he has ever known and awaken
humanity to the transforming power of true life and love. But the
blood will also resurrect hatred, ambition, and greed. Set in a
terrifying, medieval future, where grim pageantry masks death, this
tale of dark desires and staggering stakes peels back the layers of
the heart for all who dare to take the ride." - publisher's summary for Forbidden
The Intervention series (M)
by Terri Blackstock
Featuring: Intervention, Downfall, and Viscious Cycle
"Barbara
Covington has one more chance to save her daughter from a devastating
addiction: staging an intervention. But when eighteen-year-old Emily
disappears on the way to drug treatment--and her interventionist is
found dead at the airport where she was last seen--Barbara enters her
darkest nightmare of all." - publisher's description of Intervention
