2014 Griffin Poetry Prize Shortlists

We are thrilled to see Sue Goyette on this year’s Griffin Poetry Prize Canadian shortlist, nominated for her collection Ocean (M). We blogged about this book last year, and if you were lucky enough to attend the launch in Halifax, you would have heard a chorus of people reciting these mythical poems. Sue is a teacher in many forms, and a spirited maker of poetry and community. We are grateful for her work.
Next month she’ll be at the Spring Garden branch with several other authors for PoetsPick Poets, May 13th at 7 pm.

Also on the Canadian shortlist:

Anne Michaels for Correspondences (M), an elegy for her father (with portraits by Bernice Eisenstein).

Anne Carson for Red Doc> (M), a follow-up to Autobiography of Red.

None of these female authors limit themselves to poetry, but all consistently bring attentive

curiosity to their writing. The winner will be announced on June 5th.

Nominees for the 2014 Griffin Prize International shortlist are:

Pilgrim’s Flower (M) by Rachael Boast

Seasonal Work with Letters on Fire by Brenda Hillman

Silverchest (M) by Carl Phillips

Colonies by Tomasz Rózycki and translated by Mira Rosenthal
