October Specials - Let's Get Spooky!

If you've been reading the blog for awhile, you may have noticed that I'm guilty of loving a good theme (see April's poetry challenge or our recurring Six Degrees of the Library Collection posts).

With October's arrival - it seems like a great time to get down to the nitty gritty of all things spooky and otherworldly, so by the time Halloween rolls around, you should have plenty of literary scares to keep you from being frightened by the ghosts and ghouls on the street. Guest blogger Eric (who you may remember from his post on comics awhile back) is gonna lend a helping hand - so keep your eyes peeled and doors locked!

Here's a few Halloween collections to get you in the mood!

Isaac Asimov's Halloween -- a great collection of Halloween science fiction stories from
Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine. I love this quote from the amazon.ca product description "IN SPACE, NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM "TRICK OR TREAT!!!"

October Dreams: a celebration of Halloween -- an award winning Horror collection, featuring essays and short fiction from a bunch of the genres biggest names including Dean Koontz, Douglas Clegg, Poppy Z. Brite, F. Paul Wilson, Ramsey Campbell and Peter Straub.

Halloween Husbands -- nothing says Halloween like romance? Three stories from three popular romance authors Lisa Plumley, Denise Lynn and Christine Merrill just in case you can't wait for Valentine's Day.

Murder for Halloween: Tales of Suspense -- well it wouldn't be fair if we didn't let the thriller/suspense authors take a stab at Halloween (pardon the pun?). A collection that features favourite authors from the genre including: Ed McBain, Marcia Muller, Peter Lovesey and Ellery Queen.
