September Days

September has long been my favourite month. I got married in September for its crisp clear days, the non-humid nights which are great for sleeping, for the natural beauty which surrounds us. It is a time of fresh starts, making plans and 'nesting' for the coming cold months.

Coincidentally, "September" is also the title of one of my favourite novels. The author Rosamunde Pilcher has a knack of understanding the intimacies of everyday life and describing it in such a way that the reader is immersed in her settings and her characters become friends. She portrays family dilemmas and the joys and woes of friendship with empathy and insight. The novel "September" was on the New York Times bestseller list for several weeks following its publication. It is women's fiction at its finest.

A crisp September afternoon. What better way to spend it than going for a long walk and returning home to a hot drink and a good novel?
