Staff Pick - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Today's reading suggestion comes to us from Patricia Milner, a guest blogger from the Annapolis Valley Regional Library.

Need a plan for your summer reading? If you haven't already heard of, and placed your hold on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, do it now. This novel (the first in a trilogy) by the late Stieg Larsson is by far the best book I have read in awhile.

I often look for unique characters and situations and this book delivers on both and is a wonderful change from the usual thriller/mystery. Lisbeth Salander will remain on your mind long after you are finished reading. The pacing is perfect, the storyline complex, putting a disgraced magazine journalist and a mysterious female super hacker with dubious credentials together to work a 40 yr old cold case. What this odd couple discovers in the course of their private investigation has monumental repercussions. Be warned though, as good as this one is, the second one is even better. It has been a long time since I stayed up late to finish a book but with this one it was easy. When I read the third I did it reluctantly knowing that there will be no more to come from this talented man. Give yourself over to this set of books. You won't regret it.

  1. I was the opposite about the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". I hated that it took so long for the two characters to meet. A friend suggested that maybe if they had left it the original title "The man who hated Women" I would not have had an expectations for the characters to meet and I would have enjoyed it more....It's too late now but it is food for thought
